My name is Susan Mittleman and I am a 500-hr, Certified Professional Yoga Teacher in the Pranakriya tradition, a lineage of Kripalu Hatha Yoga, and a Certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists. I am also certified in Thai Yoga Massage, also known as Thai Yoga Therapy, and certified in Classically-based Yoga Nidra. I hold additional certifications in Pre and Post Natal Fitness and Barre.
I grew up in Los Angeles, studied theater and communications at UCLA, and, after traveling around the world, found my way to Atlanta via the international stage of broadcast journalism. I spent more than 15 years at CNN and CNN International as a Producer and Writer, and everything in between. The stress of wars, life and death, and crazy hours took its toll, but what kept me grounded was traveling, and yoga. I’ve been practicing yoga for more than 25 years. The exploration of what is possible, both physically, emotionally and spiritually, is something I found traveling the world and on the mat. As my career and life took a few turns, my practice did as well and eventually, in 2008, I started my Pranakriya yoga teacher training with Yoganand Michael Carroll. I continued advanced trainings and became a certified Yoga Therapist with IAYT. I have been teaching, growing and learning ever since.
I truly believe yoga is a life-long practice that can bring balance and healing, strength and flexibility, and a greater sense of well-being, both on and off the mat. I’m grateful for my teachers who’ve guided my path, especially, Yoganand Michael Carrol, founder of Prankriya School of Healing Arts, Norma Chirolla, Mukta Kalsa, William Hufschmidt, Marlysa Sullivan, Sivananda Ashram, Tias Little, Bessel Van de Kolk, Leslie Kaminoff and many others who, over decades, I’ve had the pleasure of practicing with and learning from.
I currently live and work in Atlanta. I teach public and private classes, one-on-one yoga and yoga therapy sessions, in person and via live-stream. I work with various populations, including, but not limited to: able-bodies, athletes, people with limited mobility, people recovering from injury or illness, veterans with ptsd, anxiety and depression, and people in addiction recovery.
